An overdraft occurs when you do not have enough money in your account to cover a transaction, but the credit
union pays that transaction anyway. HRCU can cover your overdrafts in the following ways:
Savings Overdraft Protection - All HRCU checking account holders have their primary share account linked to their
checking account to cover transactions in the event you incur an overdraft. You may choose to add any of your
additional savings accounts to link to your checking account as added overdraft protection.
Courtesy Pay Privilege - The credit union may authorize and pay the following types of transaction using this privilege:
- Checks and other transactions made using your checking account number
- Automatic bill payments
We do not authorize and pay an overdraft for the following types of transactions:
- ATM transactions
- Daily debit card transactions
* We will pay overdrafts for these types of transactions if you request us to do so. (please see below)
We pay overdrafts using Courtesy Pay at our discretion, which means we do not guarantee that we will always
authorize and pay any type of transaction. If we do not authorize and/or pay an overdraft, your transaction will
be returned and/or declined.
What is Courtesy Pay Overdraft Protection?
Courtesy Pay is a service the credit union provides to its members to cover you in the rare event you overdraw your checking account. It allows us to pay or return checks, ach and other transactions made using your checking account number. It also allows us to approve or decline your daily purchases made with your debit card.
How can I get Courtesy Pay Overdraft Protection?
Currently you already have this service for all of your checking account transactions. Beginning August 15th there is a new regulation taking effect that will not allow us to continue to approve your daily purchases made with your debit card unless you tell us to do so. Don't wait until the last minute to continue to have the peace of mind that you enjoy today - simply stop by a branch, call us, or log on to your online banking and YES to Courtesy Pay Overdraft Protection.
Once I have Courtesy Pay will all my items be paid and approved?
At the end of each month we automatically assign a dollar amount to your overdraft limit. We use a matrix based on certain criteria such as the length of time your account has been opened, your account history, and your average balance. If the transaction that is causing you to overdraft falls within your limit we will pay or approve it.
Is there a charge for this service?
The charge for this service remains the same at $24.00 per occurrence. This is one of the lowest charges in the state of NH! There are no annual or monthly fees to pay - you only see a charge when and if you use the service. We will not impose a service charge for any purchase under $5.00. We'll be happy to refund the service charge for your first overdraft - just ask us!
What will happen if I chose not to say yes to Courtesy Pay?
When you are grocery shopping, at a restaurant paying for your food, or at any retail establishment - if you have made a mistake and you do not have enough available funds in your account to cover your purchase you will be declined when your card is swiped.
