The Homeless Center for Strafford County (HCSC) has received a donation from HRCU, Northeast Credit Union and Service Credit Union and an anonymous family foundation totaling $30,000. The three credit unions gathered on June 9th, at HCSC’s future home at 202 Washington Street in Rochester, New Hampshire to present their contributions.

HCSC was given a funding opportunity from this anonymous family foundation for a matching challenge donation in March. Brian Hughes, President and CEO of HRCU saw this as an opportunity for local credit unions to collaborate and meet the challenge. Without hesitation, the donations were secured.

“The Center provides vital shelter and comprehensive programming to help the most vulnerable” said HRCU President & CEO Brian Hughes. “HRCU has always been a big supporter of HCSC and seeing the progress being made truly shows how our community gets things done.”

“Service CU is a proud supporter of the Homeless Center for Strafford County and the incredible work that they do for the community. We are excited to have made this donation with HRCU and NECU for this program, as it truly embodies the credit union difference to be collaborative and impactful in the communities we serve.” – Jaime Yates, Service CU Community Relations Manager.

“Working together with our fellow Credit Unions to enrich the lives of those in our communities is the essence of the Credit Union motto “people helping people, states Whitney Bedard Assistant Vice President of Marketing at Northeast CU. “This new building brings with it new hope, even more inclusivity, and most importantly a loving community of its own and we are glad to play a part in contributing towards that,” Bedard concludes.

HCSC is appreciative of the support for the new building that will shelter up to 40 community members on any given night. The Credit Union support is one more layer of our community shelter being built by our community itself. Continuing our 23-year mission of shelter, food and case management in the new "Home for Now" building simply would not have been possible without the final funding streams and we are grateful for this collaborative effort! -Tracy Hardekopf, Executive Director of HCSC
