DOVER, NH –Over 50 employees from Holy Rosary Credit Union (HRCU) and Bernier Insurance, along with family and friends, participated in a bowl-a-thon at Dover Bowl to raise money for Junior Achievement of Northern New England (JA of NNE). Junior Achievement is a global organization that provides curriculum to educate students on financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship.
“Teaching JA in the classroom is very rewarding. Seeing the students learn about finances, different jobs, building a business, wants vs. needs, spending and saving, filling out resumes and more helps to get them excited about their financial future”, said Missy Files, a certified financial education instructor and HRCU’s Youth Financial Coordinator.
For the 2018-2019 school year, HRCU has provided volunteers to teach over 32 JA classes, reaching over 600 students in Kindergarten through 8th grade in Rochester, Dover, Farmington and Strafford. “We had a great time and as always, we love supporting HRCU and their great causes! It's events and alliances like this which make us proud to be a locally owned and operated business,” said Eduard R. Viel, Vice President, Personal Lines, of Bernier Insurance.
Participants came up with team names that reflected financial education terms, such as the “Tellers on Strike” and “Loan Rangers”, as April is Financial Literacy Month. “What HRCU has raised will help us inspire and prepare another 105 students with the knowledge and skills to succeed in a global economy!” said Kelsey Taylor, Development & Events Manager at JA of NNE.
