ROCHESTER, NH - HRCU provided a sponsorship to the Rochester Chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace that supported their first public build held in the Lowe’s Home Improvement parking lot at 160 Washington Street. Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a national not-for-profit organization that builds, assembles, and delivers beds to children and families in need across the country. Jim and Marlene Graves of Rochester recently started a new chapter and HRCU is proud to support such an organization.
Community Relations Officer Angela Hardin was there to lend a hand and help promote the organization. “When I first heard about this organization and that Jim and Marlene had started a local chapter I just knew we had to help”, said Hardin. “Every child should have their own bed and if we can support SHP’s mission financially and through raising awareness, we can make a difference in the lives of those children”.
Jim Graves, Co-President of the Rochester NH Chapter said he couldn’t be happier with the results of their first build. Fifty-four volunteers turned out to help and together they built 24 beds in just over two hours. The beds will be stored until they are scheduled for delivery. From there they will be assembled on site and a mattress and bedding will be provided to the child, as well.
“In just under a week, we already have requests for 14 beds”, said Graves, “More than half of the 24 that we built. As a nonprofit organization, we rely solely on donations, and every little bit helps”.
