International Travel

Plan ahead for safe, seamless debit and credit card use abroad.

Before you pack your bags, take a few simple steps to ensure your HRCU Visa® debit or credit card works flawlessly during international travel. Even if you are traveling within the United States, please let us know so we can make note and better protect your account.

  • Notify HRCU of your travel plans. This ensures your international purchases aren't flagged as suspicious and declined. Whether you are traveling within the U.S. or abroad, you can set up travel notices within Card Management in your online account.
  • Check card limits. Confirm whether your Visa card has a daily spending limit or ATM withdrawal restrictions.
  • Memorize your PIN. You'll need it to withdraw cash at over 1.7 million Visa, PLUS, and Accel ATMs worldwide.
  • Avoid putting your PIN in writing. For security reasons, it's best to keep it committed to memory and separate from your card.
  • Store backup details. Keep your card number and the lost/stolen phone number in a safe place, separate from your wallet and phone.

For your protection, HRCU cards are not automatically enabled for use outside of the U.S., including Canada and Mexico.

International Travel

For security purposes, HRCU debit cards do not automatically work outside of the United States, so you will need to set up a travel notice inside Card Management, which will allow you to set travel plans with a maximum duration of 14 days. If you are traveling for more than 14 days, you will need to either update the app after the 14-day period ends or contact HRCU Member Support at 603-332-6840.

You can let us know about your travel plans by calling our Member Service Center at 603-332-6840 during business hours or easily add your plans in HRCU's Mobile App on your own schedule:

  1. After logging into your HRCU Mobile App, you should see a snapshot of your account. To set up a travel plan, you will need to click on the More button at the bottom right corner of the screen.
  2. Click on Card Management.
  3. This will display which card you are going to be making the travel plan for. If you would like to set one up for another HRCU card of yours, swipe the card to the left and tap Add Card. Once you have the card you would like, scroll down and tap Manage Travel Plans.
  4. Tap Add Travel Plan. Note: You can add up to 2 travel plans per card and each travel plan can be set to a maximum of 15 days. After this, it will be part of your normal spending pattern.
  5. When setting up a travel plan, you will be required to do two-factor authentication and verify your identity. You can elect to receive an email communication or a text message. After receiving your security token code, type it in and tap Next.
  6. Choose the destination you are traveling to. You can add up to 15 destinations at one time, or two different travel plans.
  7. Then you can add your travel dates. Be sure not to go over 15 days. If it goes over 15 days, create two travel plans. Click Submit once you are done.

HRCU blocks all international transactions unless you set up a travel plan. You can do this in the Card Management section of our app or by calling HRCU support. However, if you’ve manually blocked international purchases in the app, only you can unblock them there. Support can’t override it.
