ROCHESTER, NH – HRCU announced the 29 recipients of its annual Christmas Caring Campaign, an initiative that enables the credit union to give back to their community. Since the campaign’s inception in 2014, HRCU has donated over $300,000 to local nonprofits in the spirit of helping keep the seacoast community well, warm, and fed.

The Christmas Caring Campaign is one of the most eagerly anticipated events at HRCU. Credit unions are not for profit, so some of their funds are given back to their communities in the form of donations and sponsorships. The staff and volunteers at HRCU nominate nonprofits that are creating meaningful change, and a committee makes the final selections. Then HRCU staff members have the happy task of either visiting the nonprofits or welcoming them to the credit union to receive their donations. The chance for everyone at HRCU to be involved makes the Christmas Caring Campaign all the more meaningful.

Recipients are nonprofits who meet people’s essential needs, from food pantries and homeless shelters to mental health and addiction recovery services. In the holiday spirit, HRCU also gives to local toy drives.

“Our Christmas Caring Campaign creates a lot of enthusiasm among HRCU staff members and volunteers, who are passionate about supporting local charitable organizations,” said Brian Hughes, President and CEO at HRCU. “The nonprofits we support are doing the work, day in and day out, to feed, clothe, house, and care for people in need. It’s inspiring to see our donations grow each year, allowing us to help more of our neighbors each holiday season.”

Another benefit that HRCU has seen from the Campaign is a greater awareness of local nonprofits, who often toil without recognition or sufficient support. HRCU shares the names of the recipients in the hopes that others who are able will support them as well:
